Welcome to Cergy

Cergy-Pontoise is a large urban area located about 30 km northwest of Paris. It comprises several towns, including Cergy and Pontoise. The central district, Cergy-Préfecture, is known for its large buildings and shopping centres.

One of the landmark sites is the Axe Majeur, a promenade featuring a red bridge and columns, offering a unique view of the River Oise and Paris. Cergy-Pontoise is also a significant student hub with CY Cergy Paris University and provides a variety of leisure activities, including parks, a recreational lake, and sports facilities.

The Peintinoire, a Pop-up Mural Art Museum

The Peintinoire is a pop-up graffiti museum created by 43 artists from the Art Osons collective. It covers 3,000 square metres in Cergy-Pontoise’s former ice rink. The artistic project, completed in five months and closed to the public since September 2024, will be exceptionally open for a private guided tour for EUTOPIA WEEK participants.

Visiting Cergy Village and Port Cergy

On this tour, you’ll discover that Cergy was originally a charming village. Forget the modern city and explore the old Cergy, with its church dedicated to Saint Christopher, farmhouses, footpaths washhouses, and pituresque marina! 

A guide will lead the tour from the Cergy-Pontoise Tourist Office.

The Festival du Regard (Photography)

For this 8th edition, themed « Animal », The Festival du Regard focuses on the human-animal relationship through the work of five internationally renowned photographers: Tina Merandon, Tim Flach, Laurent Ballesta, Nathalie Baetens, and Daniel Gebhart de Keokkoek.

Axe Majeur

One of the landmarks of Cergy-Pontoise, the Axe Majeur is a 3,2 km work of art highlighting urban architecture within the exceptional landscape of the Île-de-France region. 

Montmorency

Jean-Jacques Rousseau museum

In April 1756, Jean-Jacques Rousseau fled Paris and went on to live in Montmorency, a village located 15 kilometers in the northern countryside of the capital.  The philosopher and writer created many of his most important works here, including Julie or the New Heloise, The Social Contract, and Emile. The house where he resided now hosts a museum that also serves as a venue for exhibitions and artistic events.

Castle of Auvers-sur-Oise

Erected during the 17th century and listed as a supplementary historical monument, the Castle of Auvers-sur-Oise uniquely combines its historical heritage with a multimedia experience dedicated to Impressionism. The exhibition « Van Gogh , the last journeys », offers a digital exhibition in the heart of the marvelous building about the last four years of the artist’s life, enriched with originals.

This former Cistercian abbey, founded in the 13th century, is a magnificent heritage site. The restored gardens create a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a cultural visit.

Auvers-sur-Oise

Van Gogh house

The Van Gogh house, preserved since 1890, transports visitors to the artist’s life in Auvers-sur-Oise through his art and photography. Though the house is empty, the spirit of Van Gogh still lingers here.
